Amy Karam brings a diverse background in healthcare as well as elementary education and business development experience in a rural Louisiana parish to her work on the Growing Up Fit Together Seal-a-Smile program. Over the last five years, Seal-a-Smile has grown from an in-school screening and sealant program in one school to a five-parish initiative that has served more than 8,000 disadvantaged children in rural Louisiana parishes of Allen, Avoyelles, Catahoula, Concordia, and Evangeline. The project actively provides screenings, sealants and oral health education to students throughout rural Louisiana. Karam served as the founding Chair for the Louisiana Department of Public Health's Dental Consortium that focused on expanding school-based screening and sealant programs scross the state and is a current member of the Louisiana Oral Health Coalition. |
